We've been teased a few times this summer with threats of lightning that never materialized over Northern California. But with the added fire risk of this week's hot-hot weather, the threat of unstable air and dry lightning from the remnants of a hurricane is very rare in the coming days.

We're getting some of that rare summer precipitation in San Francisco and elsewhere around NorCal, thanks to monsoonal moisture drifting our way from the desert Southwest.

Much of Northern California is in for another lightning scare this week, amid a summer of unusually frequent brushes with tropical moisture that creates the potential for lightning.

Seasonal monsoonal moisture from the Southwest is moving across California today, bringing with it some chance of thunder and lightning, most likely concentrated closer to the Sierra and in the North Bay.

The Bay Area may see some rare summer lightning again early next week. And while it does not yet look like a large lightning event like the one that sparked multiple massive wildfires in the region last August, it doesn't bode well.
