As of Friday afternoon, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has officially opened the floodgates for gay marriages to resume in California.

According to the L.A. Times, individual counties can now begin issuing same-sex marriage licenses.

Although the court had said earlier this week that it could take up to 25 days to resume marrying gay couples after Wednesday's U.S. Supreme Court rulings, Governor Jerry Brown apparently didn't want to miss any fabulous July weddings and advised state agencies to "begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in California as soon as the 9th Circuit confirms the stay is lifted" — which is exactly what the court did this afternoon.

Attorney General Kamala Harris also called the court on Wednesday, saying she believed that the appeals court could lift the hateful ban imposed by Prop 8 almost immediately.

County clerks across the state said earlier this week that they would be ready to start presiding over City Hall weddings once the ban was lifted, but we're still waiting on word from city officials in San Francisco as to when, exactly, those marriages licenses will officially start happening.

Update 4:15 p.m.: Marriages are literally beginning immediately: Matt Dorsey, a spokesman for San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera, told the AP that San Francisco city officials were preparing to let couples marry right away.

Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, the two lead plaintiffs in the Prop 8 case, were in line at San Francisco City Hall at 4:15 p.m., ready to tie the knot with Attorney General Harris officiating:

"By the power vested in me by the state of California," Attorney General Harris said, standing on the balcony overlooking the main floor of city hall just before 5 p.m. on Friday, "I now pronounce you spouses for life." Naturally, there are photos from Kris and Sandy's ceremony in City Hall.

If you'd like to make an appointment to get a marriage license in San Francisco, you can do that right here and the County Clerk's Office will be open all weekend through Pride to help couples get hitched.
