  • A 68-year-old sailboater had to be rescued amidst high winds off Alameda Wednesday morning, after the boat crashed into a rock wall and started sinking. The sailor was reportedly hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. [KRON4 / KTVU]
  • The Killers have now been added to the lineup of Super Bowl Weekend acts playing in San Francisco, with a Palace of Fine Arts show scheduled for Saturday, February 7. That will follow a previously announced Friday night show by Sting, and it will be simultaneous with a Bill Graham Civic Auditorium show by country star Chris Stapleton.   • It looks somewhat likely that the Supreme Court is not going to rule in Trump's favor when it comes to his sweeping tariffs. All three of the conservative justices he appointed, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, and Barrett, were skeptical that the president, and Congress, has the authority to unilaterally impose tariffs. [CNN]
  • A UPS cargo plane crashed in Louisville, Kentucky Wednesday after its left wing caught fire and an engine detached on takeoff. The plane, head for Hawaii and loaded with fuel, crashed into some buildings next to the airport, and killed a total of 12 people, including a child, and injured a dozen others. [KTVU]
  • The redistricting fight being waged now that Prop 50 passed, between California and Texas, has few parallels in history, and legal experts suggest it represents a legal crisis. [New York Times]
