In what is believed to be Campbell's first murder in two years, 23-year-old Elsie De La Rosa of San Jose was arrested for allegedly running over her "friend" and killing her.

According to KRON 4, the incident happened on Tuesday at Leigh Avenue and Montemar Way at 7:17 a.m. when police received a report of a car hitting a pedestrian. Witnesses claimed that the driver sped away, and authorities found a 23-year-old woman in the roadway. She was transported to a hospital where she later died. She has since been identified as 23-year-old Santa Clara resident Sally Hernandez.

Meanwhile, De La Rosa was identified as a "known associate" of Hernandez's and suspected driver of the car, a grey sedan.

Campbell Police Captain Gary Berg told the Mercury News that the two woman were "hanging out" on Monday night and got into a fight that apparently occurred inside the car. "There was an altercation that happened in the car. It turned physical and spilled out into the roadway," said Berg.

Berg explained to ABC 7 that at some point during the argument, the women got out of the car. De La Rosa then got back into the vehicle and "intentionally" hit her friend.

De La Rosa was located by police, arrested, and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of murder and felony hit-and-run. She'll be arraigned this afternoon.
