Eight months after an attack on Market Street sent a man to the hospital, the victim has succumbed to his injuries, turning an assault investigation into a homicide one.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the attack occurred at 12:32 a.m. on the morning of June 18, 2016, on the 1100 block of Market Street (which is between Sixth and Seventh Streets).
Police say that the victim, a 56-year-old man, was struck with a glass bottle by a 30-year-old male. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of his injuries, police say. This week, he "succumbed to his injuries in hospital," police say, raising San Francisco's homicide count for 2016 from 59 to 60. (Annual homicide rates as reported by most US law enforcement agencies are dated at the time of the injury, not at the time of victim death.)
According to the SFPD, no arrests have been made in the attack as of Wednesday morning. If you know anything about the case, police ask that you call SFPD's Anonymous Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
