Two fatal shootings rocked San Francisco Thursday night, sending the city's already high homicide number for the year even higher.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the first shooting occurred at 5:14 p.m. Thursday, on the 200 block of Golden Gate Avenue, which is between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets.
Police say that two unknown suspects fired shots at a 39-year-old man and a 42-year-old man, striking both. The two victims were transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of their injuries, but the younger man was pronounced dead on arrival. The older man, police say, suffered non-life-threatening wounds in the attack and is expected to survive.
A bit more than a hour later, at 6:25 p.m., a second shooting was reported on the 200 block of Valencia Street, which is between Duboce Avenue and 14th Street.
In that case, police say that a male suspect who appeared to be about 35 years old shot a 38-year-old man, then apparently fled the scene.
The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police say.
These deaths bring San Francsico's homicide count to 59 for the year, marking the highest number of slayings in four years and an a significant increase over last year's count of 53.
