Alex Gibney, the director who made the provocative HBO documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, has just made a new doc about the man who made Apple, Steve Jobs, titled Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine. This is not to be confused with the Danny Boyle-directed biopic coming out later this year, Steve Jobs, starring Michael Fassbender.

The documentary was made without the cooperation of the Jobs family or any sanction from Apple, and it looks to expose Jobs' many human flaws as well as celebrate his visionary brilliance. One friend calls him a "study in contrasts," and a former Apple exec says, "He was not that much fun most of the time." That same exec also admits Jobs basically ruined his life: "The work was intense. The commitment needed to do it was intense. I lost my wife. I lost my children."

The film will be screened in theaters, as well as be available through iTunes, starting September 4th.
