Even at 84 years old, William Shatner is willing to boldly go where no man has gone before. In this case, that might involve going a bit too far. In the above video, the Canadian actor, spoken word artist, and price negotiator suggests a $30 billion Kickstarter campaign to build a water pipeline to California. From where? He basically says: I don't know, Seattle or something? Where to? “Bring it down here and fill one of our lakes! Lake Mead!” The idea, he says, is "simple." Because "they did it in Alaska."
We should all be as deeply concerned about the California drought as Shatner, but his solution for the situation, which he may or may not have just come up with in the middle of an interview with David Pogue for Yahoo, is better suited to the plot of, oh I don't know, some TV show.
“You’re gonna get a scoop here,” Shatner told Pogue before making his big reveal. “California’s in the midst of a 4-year-old drought... They tell us there’s a year’s supply of water left. If it doesn’t rain next year, what do 20 million people in the breadbasket of the world do?"
All told, Shatner admits he is trying to raise awareness and make his concerns known. So for that, we salute you, Captain Kirk.
