Coming to replace the former, longtime Nob Hill fine-dining mainstay Masa's this week is Game. As discussed a couple months back, Game is a new wild-game-focused restaurant from the chef-owner behind the Michelin-starred Indian spot in San Mateo, All Spice. That would be chef Sachin Chopra, who along with his wife Shoshanna Wolff and executive chef Zack Freitas (All Spice, Station 1, Commis) are opening an entirely new concept in this storied space that will combine "adventurous fine dining" with some unusual meats and California style.

We also know the dining room will now sport at least one painting by designer Michael Brennan of animal heads on human bodies (see above), as well as a brighter color palate than Masa's more museum-like days. (Masa's opened in 1983 under chef Masataka “Masa” Kobayashi to instant acclaim, and survived after Kobayashi's still-unsolved murder in 1984 under several chefs, maintaining a Michelin star through 2013, when it closed.)

Here's the concise opening dinner menu, which features less adventurous things like cavatelli with wild boar sugo; black cod with mustard greens, chanterelles and black garlic; and basted duck with yogurt and blackened alliums; and some more adventurous stuff like whole braised goat with pomegranate and spiced wild rice; and an elk burger topped with pastrami and fontina.

Game opens on Thursday, November 6, and you can make reservations here.
