Although none of the emergency workers or first responders to the Asiana Airlines flight 214 crash last Saturday recalled such an incident, San Francisco Police confirmed Friday morning that 16-year-old Ye Meng Yuan was struck by an emergency vehicle during the chaos. It is still unconfirmed, however, whether the vehicle strike was the cause of death.
KTVU reports SFPD is treating this like a hit-and-run investigation, but they are currently waiting for the coroner to determine the official cause of death. The vehicle reportedly struck her in the tall grass and fire-fighting foam in the field next to runway 28L where the plane came to rest. Ye Meng Yuan and Wang Lin Jia, both 16, were ejected from the plane upon impact. Wang also died from her injuries.
Both girls were headed to a Christian summer camp in Southern California at West Valley Christian School. The school held a vigil for the two girls Thursday evening and is currently accepting donations for the victims through July 20th.
