James Franco has had his hands in a lot of pots and has been attending a lot of schools in the last few years. Well, while he was in S.F. in 2011 shooting the film adaptation of Stephen Elliott's book Cherry, now titled About Cherry, he became fascinated with the Armory and kinky stuff in general. So, he ended up producing two documentaries, one, called Kink, which is premiering at Sundance on January 19, and another called Interior. Leather Bar., which will also be screening at the fesitval.

Kink is directed by Christina Voros, and she describes the doc as "an unexpurgated look behind the scenes at the world's leading producer of fetish entertainment, and its incredibly kinky staff," and also, "a story of sex, submission and big business ... told through the eyes of the unlikely pornographers whose 9:00-to-5:00 work days are spent within the confines of the San Francisco Armory building."

Kink.com (link NSFW), as you probably know, is the world's leading producer of fetish porn, and is staffed by over 130 gay, straight, bi, and trans employees. They moved into the long vacant National Guard Armory building at 14th and Mission in 2006, after buying it for $14.5 million, making it into their production headquarters. They also just opened a bar across the street, open to the public, called The Armory Club.

Kink, the film, screens at midnight at the Egyptian in Park City on January 19, if you happen to be heading to Sundance. We're sure it will also have some screenings here in town next year.

Interior. Leather Bar., which Franco produced and which was directed by Travis Matthews, is an art-film/documentary project that's connected to Matthews' explicit feature I Want Your Love, which premiered at the Castro earlier this year. The two say that the film is their attempt to recreate the rumored 40 minutes of leather bar footage that was cut from William Friedkin's 1980 film Cruising, starring Al Pacino. See the trailer for that below.

And no, he's still not gay. He's just fascinated with gay sex is all, and kink.
