An unidentified teenager was sentenced today in a Martinez court in the vehicular manslaughter deaths of Solaiman Nuri, 41, and his 9-year-old daughter Hadees. They were killed on April 7 while riding bicycles along a road in Concord when they were hit by the teen, who was 17 at the time.

He was sentenced to the maximum term of seven years of confinement, but he will be released in three years, when he is 21, because state law requires it due to his conviction while still being a minor.

The teen was driving a Cadillac Escalade at the time of the crash, around 9:30 a.m., going 72 mph in a 45 mph zone. He made a reckless lane change just before hitting Nuri and his daughters — one of whom, Hannah, age 12, survived the crash with minor injuries. The teen was not intoxicated at the time, and was apparently not texting either.
