This story of the stick-wielding homeless man who was charged with assault with a deadly weapon just won't go away — and neither will the three responding officers' case of poison oak apparently.

According to the Examiner today, three SFPD officers — one of whom already sustained a blow to the head when the suspect clobbered him with the tree branch — ended up getting covered in poison oak as they tried to wrestle the rowdy transient to the ground. At least one of the cops hasn't been able to return to his regular shifts since the scuffle on September 9th. Luckily, it's nothing a couple cases of Calamine lotion and some antihistamines can't handle, so Richmond Station Capt. Sharon Ferrigno expects the officers will return to work shortly.

Meanwhile, 39-year-old suspect William Deegan pled not guilty to the three felony charges in the attack. He is currently in custody on $100,000 bail and we don't imagine the cops are sharing any of that calamine lotion either.
