ART: Hayes Valley Art Coalition is celebrating the installation of Adaptations, a site specific sculpture created by San Francisco artist Mark Baugh-Sasaki, which is constructed of a steel skeleton filled with locally-sourced salvaged tree limbs. There will be food served by Marino Mexican and Seafood Restaurant and music by local Gypsy jazz trio Gaucho.

FILM: Anupama Kapse presents Snakes, Sirens and Vamps: A Short History of Early Indian Cinema, a talk illustrated with rare excerpts from some of the earliest films from the subcontinent, including silent gems Kaliya Mardan (1919), Gallant Hearts (1931), The Thief of Baghdad (1924), films from the legendary Bombay Talkies studio, and early sound films like Achut Kanya (1936) and Aadmi (1939). There will also be musical accompaniment by Robin Sukhadia.

OPEN HOUSE: In celebration of LaborFest 2009, the historic Redstone Labor Temple, formerly known as the San Francisco Labor Temple, which has housed numerous labor union offices and meeting halls through the years, will be open to the public tonight for live music, food and memories, celebrating the building’s history, murals, and tenants, past and present.
