An astonishing twelve passengers were sent to the hospital on Saturday after a T-Third train slammed into the back of a two-car N-Judah. The accident happened near AT&T Park on King Street between Third and Fourth streets, and none of the injuries were life-threatening. Allegedly.
But why the T-Third didn't stop is anyone's guess. As of now, Muni has no idea. When the trains are underground, the lines run are "run on an automated control system." But when they move above ground, the drivers are in control. Ideally.
Drug tests have been administered, heads have shook in continued disappointment, and pointless meetings have been scheduled to get to the bottom of Saturday's accident. This comes of the heels of SFMTA receiving a cool 7 million from the Office of Homeland Security in order to improve safety condition on Muni lines. (If you don't know, Muni has a patterned history of refreshingly daredevil, though unsafe, operation.)
