Son Of BART Employee Wins Spelling Bee!

Son Of BART Employee Wins Spelling Bee!

And the Bay Area dominates your reality TV scene YET AGAIN!!! Danville's own Evan O'Dorney, sponsored by the proud-as-punch Contra Costa Times, wins this year's spelling bee on the word "serrefine," which is not a brand of drinking water but rather, is a small set of forceps used for clamping blood vessels.

O'Dorney is home-schooled (but affiliated with a local charter school, and takes classes at various local community colleges), came in fifth in the regional MathCounts contest, has a black belt in karate, and loves to play the piano. But the thing we are totally the most into is that his dad is a BART employee, proudly sporting his BART polo on national TV!

The color commentators on ABC were like, "His dad works for a local Bay Area public transportation line -- and we bet they're all on the E train for Evan!" We were like, "There is no E line on the BART. BART designates its lines by final destination. They should be pulling for the Pittsburg/Bay Point line if they want to support the O'Dorneys."

Check out Mr. O'Dorney's BART t-shirt in the AP picture above, by Jacqueline Martin.
