Despite its strong following, we felt completely let down by Trader Joe's 99-cent whole-wheat dough: once rolled, we could not get it to remain stretched. In fact, its ability to retract to the touch reminded us of garden snails when you poke their soft parts. Fortunately there is the onomatopoeic Patxi's Chicago Pizza.
Pronounced Pah-cheese, the famous Palo Alto /San Francisco Chicago-style pizza-joint makes some of the most delicious wheels in town, but it also gives you a chance to unleash your inner pizzaiolo in the comfort of your own home. Patxi's homemade pizza dough costs $3.50, and it is worth every cent. They make it daily and sell it wrapped in aluminum foil. Bring it home, roll it flat in no time (we can't toss) top it with your favorite tomato/gorgonzola/anchovy combination and stick it in the oven for 15 minutes tops. Out comes a marvel of ease and tastiness.
Even better, when it is rolled extra thin, Patxi's whole-wheat dough is also surprisingly good
for quiches. Unlike grandma, we tend to use sex to keep our sigificant other significant, though we have to admit that we find the occasional homemade quiche doesn't hurt either.
