Speaker Nancy Pelosi shows off her new gavel at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast in San Francisco this morning.
This was Pelosi's first time back in her home district after ascending to the speaker position -- and she was greeted as a liberator by an enthusiastic crowd of 1000 as she warned Bush that the Democrats would be watching him closely on the proposed troop "surge" in Iraq.
On the issue of "San Francisco values," Pelosi said she was "proud to represent San Francisco values in the Congress of the United States -- faith, hope and love." Huge applause line! Yay San Francisco!
