A shooting that occurred early Monday in Monterey County appears to have taken place during a party on Moss Landing State Beach, and two people sustained fatal injuries.
We mentioned a shooting in today's Morning Links without knowing any further details from the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, which was still processing the scene Monday morning at Moss Landing State Beach.
As KTVU now reports, two people were killed and two people sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting that took place just after midnight on Monday. Monterey County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene off Jetty Road, which branches off from Highway 1 near the Elkhorn Slough bridge.
On Moss Landing State Beach, they found two victims with gunshot wounds to the chest who were pronounced dead at the scene. A this victim at the scene had minor injuries, and another victim later arrived at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Monterey County Sheriff's Commander Andy Rosas gave a press conference Monday saying that investigators still did not know any details about the circumstances of the shooting, nor did they have any suspect information to share.
There has also been no information about the age or gender of the victims.
The sheriff's office says that there is "no active threat to the Moss Landing Community at this time."
The scene at the beach, per KTVU, was littered with red Solo cups and other evidence of a late-night party.
Jetty Road and Moss Landing State Beach were closed to the public Monday morning.
This is the fourth Halloween weekend shooting to occur around the Bay Area, following shootings on Friday and Saturday in Fairfield and Vacaville, and a fatal shooting on Saturday morning in Oakland.
This is a developing story.
