Humpday Headlines: Two Dead In Santa Clara County Fire

  • Two people died after being rescued from a house fire in Santa Clara County. The two-alarm fire occurred early Wednesday in Monte Sereno, at a two-story home on the 17000 block of Rose Court, and the Santa Clara County Fire Department is using the incident to remind everyone to maintain working smoke alarms in every room.   • Oakland police on Tuesday announced the arrest of three suspects who are linked to at least three violent robberies in the city. One individual, a 28-year-old man, is suspected of committing an armed robbery at a store on 14th Avenue on August 19, and committing a purse-snatching a week later on 8th Avenue. [KPIX]
  • The Bay Area is currently the hotspot for influenza around the state, as flu season gets off to an early start. The California State Department of Health's Respiratory Virus Dashboard shows the region now has an almost 10% test positivity rate, and Santa Clara County has noted that "Reported [flu] hospitalizations are more than 11 times higher this year than during the same week last year."   • Ofelia Garcia Ortega, the wife of incest and murder suspect Sergio Galvez Perez and the mother of the 14-year-old daughter he's suspect of impregnating in Monterey County, has been arrested on suspicion of permitting a child to suffer or be endangered, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, among other charges.
