- A married couple in their sixties were both found dead of gunshot wounds outside their home in the Berkeley hills Friday, with a gun lying nearby, in what sounds like a murder-suicide. Police say they are not looking for any suspect, and there is no threat to the neighborhood. [Chronicle]
- 49ers owner Jed York has been officially punished by the NFL for his embarrassing August arrest in a prostitution sting in Ohio. For violating the league's personal conduct policy, York is being fined a half-million dollars and is suspended from attending six games, three of which he has already skipped this season. [KTVU]

- Christa Pike, the convicted killer who the state of Tennessee failed to execute by lethal injection on Wednesday night, remains unconscious and on a ventilator, in critical condition. Legal and ethical questions now remain regarding when a state can execute person, because they have to be conscious and fully aware of why they are being executed, under the law. - The Flydubai co-pilot who allegedly stabbed the captain of an Israel-bound flight and tried to crash the plane Wednesday was reportedly removed from a previous job at Oman's national airline — he is an Omani citizen — over his extremist and radical views. [CNN]
- New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a strong rebuke of the Cornell University police department and the local district attorney for their handling of a rape accusation in 2024 that has now become national news. [New York Times]
