Since Monday, more details have arrived about the prostitution sting that 49ers owner Jed York allegedly, unwittingly got himself caught up in Ohio — and we've also learned that York had filed for divorce back in May.

After learning that the wealthy owner of the San Francisco 49ers got arrested in a trailer park in Ohio over the weekend for allegedly soliciting a prostitute who was actually an undercover cop, all we could think was, "Well, that's sad."

As the Chronicle reports via police documents they obtained out of East Palestine, Ohio, the details only paint a sadder picture. And, it seems, money can't buy you the wisdom to seek out a sex worker from a more reputable venue than a sex-ad website — possibly Craigslist?!

The basic details, per the police records: York responded to a sex-work ad on a "known prostitution website" on Saturday, texting a number that was posted there and saying his name was "Joe." When he didn't receive a response, York allegedly texted the number two more times, the last on Sunday morning, asking of the woman was free and saying he'd "love to come see her." He was apparently told that the price for sex was $160, and it was $20 extra if it was unprotected.

York then allegedly drove an Avis rental car to the mobile home park in East Palestine after being given a fake lot number there, and was arrested by police with $160 in cash on his person. The "possession of criminal tools" charge that was initially reported on top of the solicitation charge apparently referred to his cellphone.

He pleaded no contest on Monday to the lesser charge of disorderly conduct, and was sentenced to time served.

According to the Chronicle, over two pages of the 10-page police report was redacted, including much of the text exchange between York and the undercover officer. But we know that he made reference to his California area code, saying that he "used to live there."

It's since been widely reported that York filed for divorce from his wife of 15 years, Danielle Belluomini, in Santa Clara County Superior Court on May 11, the day after Mother's Day. The couple has two children together, and a home in Los Altos Hills.

So, it's possible that York was spending the summer with friends and family in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, or that he has temporarily relocated there after the divorce filing.

In a late Monday report, the Chronicle reported that East Palestine has become something of a hot spot for prostitution stings, and it's known enough for this that area sex workers will decline to take clients there. More than a third of the arrests that took place in the whole state of Ohio for soliciting prostitution took place in Columbiana County, the home of East Palestine, between 2019 and 2025, according to a state AG's report, a total of 710.

And the East Palestine Police Department has one detective in particular who is part of the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, which is known for its decoy sting operations using online ads.

The embarrassing arrest now hangs over the opening of the 49ers' season, which has already been beset by injuries.

As Chronicle sports columnist Ann Killion writes, the incident is not only an embarrassment for the team, but also signals "a huge leadership void." And, Killion notes, it seems the whole league "would surely like this whole embarrassing incident to go away, as evidenced by the muted coverage of York’s arrest on ESPN, which now owns NFL Network."
