A Monday evening shooting disrupted BART service and left three people injured in the East Bay, adding one more commute woe for those trying to get home to Antioch.
The incident happened just before 5:30 pm, and we initially only heard that a shooting had taken place somewhere in the vicinity of the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station.
As ABC 7 reports, the shooting took place on the eBART transfer platform, where commuters switch to eBART trains to travel on from Pittsburg/Bay Point to Pittsburg Center and Antioch.
Reportedly, an argument between two people "escalated into gunfire," and it's not clear whether all three victims were connected to the arguing pair, or if bystanders were struck by gunfire as well. According to BART police, the victims all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
One suspect has been arrested, as KRON4 reports, and police are seeking a second suspect as well.
The shooting shut down Pittsburg/Bay Point Station as the investigation took place Monday night, and later reopened with full train service resuming around 11 pm. During the closure, a bus bridge was provided between North Concord/Martinez Station and Antioch Station.
The incident comes days after a mechanical problem that caused another disruption on the eBART line, trapping a group of morning rush hour passengers for over an hour after the train's break system suffered a malfunction.
