The California Highway Patrol has issued an Amber Alert for the teenage girl authorities believe gave birth to an infant who was found dead on the side of the road in Monterey Bay's Moss Landing last month. The missing teen's father is alleged to be the baby's father.
As NBC Bay Area reports, the Amber Alert was issued across Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Kern, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, San Diego, Orange and Imperial counties. The focus is 14-year-old Diana Galvez Ortega, who was last seen over a month ago with her father in Monterey County.
Earlier this week, SFist reported that Monterey County authorities were continuing to search for Salinas man Sergio Galvez Perez, 38, and his daughter, Diana, who are both suspected in the death of an infant possibly born of incest between the two. According to a postmortem exam, the infant showed signs of a traumatic injury.
Authorities are now calling her "Baby Angelita" and the Monterey County Sheriff's office is asking the public for help in locating the pair, as SFist also reported. Per the California Highway Patrol, the pair were last seen in the wee hours of August 4 in Salinas. The Amber Alert arrives as police say they've received new information about the vehicle Galvez Perez may be driving.
Identified as a white Nissan Altima with no plates from surveillance video, police are asking anyone who spots the car to not approach and to call 911.
At present, Galvez Perez is wanted for charges that include child endangerment and child sex crimes involving his daughter. The Monterey County District Attorney's Office also noted it has probable cause to arrest Galvez Ortega for murder but that they had yet to receive any filing requests for criminal charges against her.
