Saturday night's biggest surprise was the return of Friday headliner Charli xcx, who took the stage with The Strokes for a performance of "Take It Or Leave It" to send fans home on a major high.

Day Two of Outside Lands saw another sold-out crowd descend on Golden Gate Park to romp and revel under overcast skies for an eclectic lineup that included sets from Pink Patheress, The xx, and Dijon. And once again, the sun did not manage to make a single appearance.

The Chronicle this year asked the question on every older person's mind who's been going to this festival longer than they'd care to admit: Does Outside Lands (now) Have a Teenager Problem? The 15- to 18-year-olds they surveyed all had pretty much the same answer, which is "no," but some admitted that their cohort could get a little aggressive when it comes to pushing their way to the front of a crowd, because hey! How many concerts have these kids actually been to? They're still learning.

While things were getting underway in mid-afternoon, singer-songwriter-guitarist Lucy Dacus provided a perfect late afternoon soundtrack filled with booming ballads.

Midway through her set, Dacus even brought out her partner and Boygenius bandmate Julien Baker for a tender duet of "Bullseye" that saw the two perched together on an ornate Victorian sofa.

Adding to the warm and fuzzies, after she performed the Boygenius song "True Blue," Dacus shared that "the person I wrote that song for is here today. Love you.”

Dacus also invited the crowd to join her in saying "Fuck ICE" at one point — they happily obliged. She then added: "Feels good right?"

Meanwhile, the Dolores Stage welcomed artists from Oasis to deliver drag performances that included numbers from San Francisco staples like Tito Sito and gag-worthy turns from recent RuPaul's Drag Race contestants Kori King and Lydia Butthole Kollins.

Taking the stage in an elaborate puppet costume, she quickly shed her top skin to break out the moves to a super mix of Betty Hutton's "It's Oh So Quiet" and Lady Gaga's "Mary Jane Holland." Hopefully the QR codes conveniently placed on the screen behind her led to many well-deserved tips!

The afternoon also saw a main stage sets from rock act Djo front by Stranger Things actor Joe Keery and singer-model Ethel Cain.

Thankfully, Saturday never got brutally chilly. In fact, it was the perfect temperature for some performers. During her DJ set at the Panhandle stage, drag queen Trixie Mattel asked how many in the massive crowd assembled to watch her were feeling cold.

"I don't care if you're cold," she cackled. "This air feels amazing!"

Flanked by four back-up dancers, Mattel's set got off to an inauspicious start as the dance crew's track cut off midway through their choreography. Undeterred, they continued the routine in silence, then did it again when the sound once more dropped. Eventually, all was rectified, with Mattel joking that the problems arose because "all of this wiring was done by gay people."

Decked out in a metallic pink dress with futuristic shoulder armor, it was worth the wait as a full-on dance party was finally able to erupt in a roar of glitter and bass.

The kids packed themselves into large crowds for sets by a pair of EDM acts, Łaszewo, on the Twin Peaks stage, and Snow Strippers, on the Sutro stage.

Plenty of folks also turned out for Dijon, who packed Twin Peaks for his early evening set heavy on songs off his critically-acclaimed 2025 album, Baby.

For some, Saturday's zenith meant a date with The xx at Twin Peaks or with PinkPantheress at Sutro.

For others, it was about whether The Strokes would suck. Returning after a 2021 set that continues to live in infamy, the band decided to set things right with a full-effort performance that even saw the return of Friday headliner Charli xcx as a special guest.

Lead singer Julian Casablancas added to the moment by highlighting the fact that both The Strokes and Charli released new albums on the same day last month.

"This is a nice evening," he said. "We've got a special guest. A superstar. In the battle of the albums, you defeated us. She won by a lot. She's a giant pop star, in our defense."

And with that, Charli was back to trade vocals with Casablancas on Is This It closing track "Take It Or Leave It." Likely made possible as a result of the pop star's choice to pivot her in-store appearance at Amoeba music from Friday to Saturday, fans were utterly elated to get to go one more round with her.

Sounding sharp and keeping his tangents to a minimum, Casablancas and the rest of The Strokes' set finished strong. They may even be invited back again now that they've proven they are absolutely capable of delivering the headliner goods.
