An arrest has been made in the July 13 shooting of up-and-coming Oakland rapper Tan DaGod, whose given name was Alliauna Green.

Oakland police say that they have arrested a suspect in the shooting of Green outside a beauty supply shop where she was attending a grand opening event on July 13. As KTVU reports, 30-year-old Dominic Gates, who is also known as the rapper BNC4Nero, was arrested in connection with the shooting and faces murder charges.

Green was a featured guest at the store opening event on July 13 and took part in a meet-and-greet, and friends said she was killed in a targeted shooting that took place in front of dozens of witnesses, in broad daylight.

Witnesses reported there being a dispute between Green and someone else before the shots were fired. A second person was also injured in the shooting.

Gates has a rap sheet, which includes a previous felony conviction for pimping a girl younger than age 16. He was also arrested on gun charges in June 2023, and charged with failing to register as a sex offender, as Bay Area News Group reported. And he was linked to a June 4, 2023 shootout that took place at a gas station in East Oakland, near the Coliseum, at 66th Avenue and San Leandro Street, in which two people were killed.

As of last fall, there were still no murder charges filed in that case, however three suspects who were identified as being on the scene by surveillance footage, including Gates, had other charges filed against them.

One of the victims in that shooting, 25-year-old Anteasa Collins of Stockton, may have been a sex worker who was being trafficked by Gates. As Bay Area News Group noted in October, Gates admitted to police that he had driven Collins to the hospital the day of the shooting, and police found that she had his name, "Dominic," tattooed on her neck.

The gas station shooting occurred between two other mass-shooting events, one in Oakland and one San Francisco, that were linked to the local hip-hop scene. A January 2023 shooting that occurred during a music video shoot at another Oakland gas station left 18-year-old Mario Navarro dead; and a man who was linked to that shooting, 22-year-old Javier Campos of San Francisco, was subsequently arrested in connection with a June 9, 2023 mass shooting on 24th Street in San Francisco that left nine injured. That shooting occurred during a block party to celebrate the sixth anniversary of local clothing store Dying Breed.

Tan DaGod was a rising star in Oakland's rap scene, and in a podcast interview from two years ago she talked about feeling like her life was threatened in Oakland, and that she felt like she could end up either arrested or dead.
