Since 2015, drag club Mother has endured as a weekly touchstone for our city’s drag community and drag fans at Oasis. Following on her announcement last fall that she would be stepping away from her ownership role at the nightclub in order to spend more time relaxing in Palm Springs, where she owns a home, Heklina has just announced the date and details of the final Mother show.

The soon-to-be former co-owner of the SoMa queerspace announced Tuesday via Facebook that she'll be hosting the last regular-Saturday iteration of the drag club formerly known as Trannyshack next Saturday, February 8, in a two-show, one-night bow. And the announcement came with a Last Supper-esque promo photo feature Heklina as Jesus.

"I'm sending this to the Catholic League," jokes former Folsom Street Events director Demetri Sparks. Sparks was at the helm of Folsom back in 2007 when a similarly staged Last Supper promo photo featuring queer and kink folk sparked a national viral uproar.

“The Final Mother!” is slated to take the main stage at the 11th Street perch on February 8th. Described (rightfully) as the “end of an era,” the dual production begins at 11:15 p.m. and will carry on — in all manners of left-of-center frivolity — until 3 a.m. Sunday. (The second show starts at 12:45 a.m.)

"[The show] will be a mix of the greatest performances of all time, and my personal favorite people of all time,” the Twitter-verified queen says in the post. “And, yes, you will be covered in blood, sweat, and glitter the morning after.”

Oasis, as well, has noted on its social media that this final “Mother” will be an ode to the commendable acts that have graced the club over the years. Below is the announced list of performers expected to slay the crowd with memorable numbers up until Sunday’s witching hour:

  • Matthew Martin
  • Heklina
  • Florida Mann
  • D’Arcy Drollinger
  • Sue Casa
  • Tito Soto
  • Baloney
  • 1 Erection
  • Intensive Claire
  • KaiKai B Michaels
  • Miss Rahni
  • Nicki Jizz
  • Pussy Diet
  • Qween
  • Rock M. Sakura
  • Snaxx
  • Taco Zamora
  • WooWoo Monroe

DJ Omar will be behind the booth, as well; Vis-A-Vis are providing the yet-seen visuals.

Tickets, available at sfoasis.com, are $20 — which include admittance to both shows. The club’s doors open at 10 p.m., though we expect standing room will stay scarce. Suffice to say you’ll want to arrive at the 8,000 square foot transformed bathhouse not too much later after that.

Trannyshack, the predecessor club to Mother the name of which was retired for obvious reasons in 2014, dates back to 1996 and originally occurred Tuesdays at midnight at The Stud. (A 2005 documentary titled Filthy/Gorgeous chronicled some of the club's more notorious moments.) The club became more of a monthly, roving event starting in 2008, often with tributes to famous female singers, and then when Heklina and several business partners opened Oasis in 2015, it became the Saturday centerpiece under its new name.

In November, Heklina dropped the bombshell wanted to be spending more time at her Palm Springs domicile in 2020, citing the need for a "break" from her ownership role at Oasis. She’s also mentioned that “Mother” will continue to exist, albeit as a "special event" sort of happening.
