A shooting that we learned about on Thursday in a residence across the street from Lowell High School turns out to have been a fatal one, after a 21-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The victim in the shooting has been identified as Valeria Villagomez, as Bay City News reports. The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of 26th Avenue and Eucalyptus Drive, and prompted a brief lockdown at the high school. A 20-year-old man, Jose Rodriguez, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of homicide.
Merced Manor is one of several neighborhoods that circle Lake Merced, near the Stonestown Galleria complex.
Rodriguez does not appear to have a criminal record, and it remains unclear whether this shooting stemmed from a domestic incident.
This was San Francisco's 32nd homicide of 2019, following a fatal shooting Monday in the Tenderloin.
