The fires burn on to our north, and as of late Friday the death toll was revised up to 35 with the addition of two elderly men found in a home in Napa, victims of the Atlas Fire on Sunday night. That brought the Napa count up to four people, and the Tubbs Fire in Sonoma has claimed at least 18 lives.

Some updates:

  • New evacuations were ordered early Saturday due to a flare-up in the Nun's Fire. Per the Chronicle, 3,000 more residents of Santa Rosa were evacuated, at the north end of the fire, and 250 residents in the town of Sonoma have been evacuated, with the historic downtown Sonoma square now a ghost town. Several homes that sat just a mile east of the town have now burned. Below is the latest map of the Sonoma and Napa fires (fires continue burning in Mendocino, Lake, Butte, Yuba, and Nevada counties as well).
  • Containment levels rose Friday, and the Tubbs Fire is now 44% contained, while the Atlas Fire has reached 45%, both on the Napa County side. On the Sonoma side, both the Tubbs and the Nun's Fire were whipped up by winds early Saturday, as CBS 5 reports, and the Nun's Fire is only 10% contained — and it is now the Central LNU Complex fire, having joined several smaller fires. The Pocket Fire in Geyserville remains just 5% contained, and on Friday the Chronicle profiled one older resident in Alexander Valley who was defying mandatory evacuation orders there.
  • A new, 100-acre fire has sprung up in Lake County, dubbed the Long Fire. According to Cal Fire, that is off of Highway 20 and Long Valley Road.
  • Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, along with Governor Jerry Brown, are planning to attend a community meeting Saturday at 2 p.m. at Santa Rosa High School (1235 Mendocino Avenue). According to a release from Brown's office they will address the community following "a private briefing involving the governor, senators and local emergency officials and community leaders, as well as a news conference."

  • Per CBS 5, of the 1,308 missing persons reported in Sonoma County, 1,052 have been found safe while 256 people remain among the missing.
  • A total of 90,000 people have reportedly been displaced by the fires in Northern California.
  • Upwards of 5,000 buildings have been destroyed in the fires so far, per the New York Times.
  • As KRON 4 reports, police have been patrolling fire zones in Santa Rosa for looters.
  • The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office arrested this looter, a "frequent flier" known to their department, and posted his pic on Facebook.
  • Per KRON 4, rain may arrive next week to both Sonoma and Napa, and that would be good.
