A confrontation on a San Francisco street turned deadly Sunday, when a man was killed by someone police say he knew.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the incident was initially reported to themas an aggravated assault at around 5 p.m. Sunday.
When officers arrived at the intersection of Lisbon Street and France Avenue, which is just a few blocks from Balboa High School, they discovered an adult male victim, they say.
He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. As of Monday morning, the San Francisco Medical Examiner's office had yet to publicly identify the victim or to provide additional details on his manner of death.
According to the SFPD, a suspect in the slaying has already been detained. Described only as a man in his 30s, police say he knew the victim prior to the attack. As of publication time, police declined to provide additional details on the suspect.
Police could not immediately confirm San Francisco's current homicide count for 2017, but this case follows a fatal shooting on the 2600 block of Jennings Street, early in the morning of August 15. At the time, police said that that was the city's 41st homicide for the year.
Characterizing Sunday's case as an "active and ongoing investigation in the early stages," police ask that anyone with information on the slaying contact the SFPD Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or Text A Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.
