A man gunned down on a San Francisco street Tuesday morning is the city's 41st homicide for the year, suggesting that we're on track for as many, if not more, slayings than in recent years past.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the slaying occurred at 2:15 Tuesday morning, on the 2600 block of Jennings Street, in SF's Bayview District.
Details on the circumstances are scarce, with police saying this morning that a 48-year-old man was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A spokesperson with the San Francsico Medical Examiner's office said "not as of yet" when asked by SFist if the deceased had been identified.
Police did not have any suspect information available as of publication time, but confirmed that no arrests had been made in the shooting.
According to an SFPD spokesperson, this is the city's 41st homicide for the year, following the slaying of 42-year-old Oakland resident Robert Pleasant on Taylor Street on July 25.
There were 59 homicides in San Francisco in 2016, the SFPD says. There were 53 in 2015, 45 homicides in 2014, 48 in 2013, 68 in 2012, and 50 in 2011. With 41 under our belt and over four months left in the year, while one hopes that the number will stop at 41, realistically one might also assume that this year's number of slayings will be higher tend toward the higher end of the recent years' spectrum.
