SFist is seeking a full-time writer / experienced blogger with solid editing skills, news instincts, and a sparkling wit who can cover a range of topics, from hard news to arts and food.
This is a paid, full-time position, with medical and dental benefits. As our company's main office is in NYC, SFist's new associate editor will work from home (or wherever there's wi-fi). Days and hours may vary from a normal Monday-Friday 9-to-5 job, as covering breaking news in real time will be one of the new editor's responsibilities. The ideal candidate MUST be versatile and knowledgeable about San Francisco and its surrounding areas, as well as with SFist itself, its body of work, and its overall tone and voice.
The associate editor's responsibilities will include: On a daily basis, producing a healthy mix of informative and engaging blog posts; reporting and reblogging news as assigned by other editors; checking facts, combining sources, and elaborating on others' reporting as necessary; helping to execute listicles and recurring features for the site; editorializing on subjects of local interest in a smart and preferably light-hearted way; brainstorming original content on any topic of local interest. The ideal candidate should be as comfortable with writing aggregated blog posts from multiple news sources as he or she is adept at finding new and potentially viral content to report on. The new editor reports directly to SFist's editor in chief.
Requirements: At least one year of full-time blogging or equivalent experience, an instinct for what's newsworthy and the skills to report it out, a ferocious drive and piercing wit, a deep and abiding love for San Francisco, and the stamina to create at least six well written and click-worthy posts per day while helping manage the flow of pieces from other contributors. (Please note that every day will require at least six posts of varying length, and all candidates should be prepared to keep up with that pace.) As SFist's associate editor will be expected to do on-the-ground reporting, he or she must live in the Bay Area.
