As discussed yesterday, multiple Bay Area May Day protests are going down today, in conjunction with similar demonstrations around the globe — including this one in Istanbul that was being actively broken up by police.

In San Francisco, a peaceful morning rally in Justin Herman Plaza grew more sizable ahead of a planned march that kicked off at noon, headed toward Civic Center Plaza — with Mayor Ed Lee joining the marchers.

A parallel demonstration with several hundred protesters occurred earlier outside the SF headquarters of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as the Chronicle reports, with those demonstrators marching to join the others at Justin Herman Plaza.

Meanwhile in Oakland, about 100 people gathered outside the county Administration Building near Lake Merritt, and four people were arrested this morning after chaining themselves to the building.

More protests are expected throughout the day in various locations.
