In leaked video from a private presentation to investors by Boston Dynamics founder Marc Raibert, we see their latest war machine incredible mobile AI creation, Handle. Raibert himself says that it looks to be "the next nightmare inducing robot... if you're anything like me," and indeed the thing rolls around on springy legs with wheels for feet, and, he explains, "it has a lot of knowledge of how to throw its weight around, which it uses to help stabilize itself."

It's called "Handle" because apparently it will eventually be able to handle objects (guns? bombs?), and this was the debut presentation of the company's first non-legged robot, or it first experiment with combining wheels with legs. Obviously wheels offer speed and the ability to spin, but there's a disadvantage in moving over uneven surfaces — although this thing seems to navigate a grassy slope and a curb just fine.

Also, the thing can jump, just like a rollerskater.

The video was leaked by venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson, as The Verge notes, and it looks like Jurvetson himself acknowledges that BD was upset with him and in the text of the video says that they asked him to blur this part of the video.

It's been nearly a year since we saw Boston Dynamics' scary dog robot terrorizing a schnauzer, and since we saw Atlas, their terrifying Terminator-like biped robot. And last March, Bloomberg reported that Alphabet was looking to sell this robotics division, claiming that products took too long to develop for their taste, but no buyer has emerged yet as far as we know (though Toyota and Amazon were floated as possible suitors at the time).

Handle has not yet been officially revealed to the public via one of the companies nice, HD presentations, but to remind you and your nightmares of what those look like, I'll just leave this here.
