The San Francisco Police Department is investigating a death case Friday, after human remains were found floating in the waters of Mission Creek Channel.
Police say the body was reported at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, as it floated near the 300 block of Channel Street in Mission Bay.
When pulled from the water, the body appeared to be that of a white adult male, police say. As of Friday morning, the man had not been identified, a spokesperson with the San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office says. Update: KRON 4 reports that the man has been identified as 51-year-old San Francisco resident Mark Benson.
At present, the man's cause of death is also unknown, police say. If you believe you might have any information on the deceased, you're asked to call SFPD's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
