The city of San Francisco was the site of at least three serious stabbings in the last day, police say, with two victims fighting for their lives and a third refusing to speak with investigators.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the first knife attack of note went down at 3:18 p.m. Tuesday, at the 1000 block of Gilman Avenue, which is near Bret Harte Elementary School and the Gilman Playground.

Police say that a 39-year-old man and 34-year-old man were engaged in a verbal dispute, but when the younger man picked up a board, the elder stabbed him "several times."

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say that they located the suspect and placed him under arrest.

Just a few hours later, at 5:35 p.m., police were called to a second stabbing — this one on the 200 block of Golden Gate Avenue, which is near Hyde and Leavenworth Streets. There they found a 19-year-old man suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

According to the SFPD, the victim says he was walking down the street when he was approached by two men aged 45-55. "An argument ensued," police say, and the victim punched one of the men and knocked him to the ground.

The other man then stabbed the victim, and both fled on foot.

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with serious injuries. An update on his condition was not available as of publication time.

Then at 12:23 this morning, a third: This one at Fifth and Harrison Streets. In that case, police say, a 41-year-old woman was transported to the hospital after an assailant approached her and stabbed her.

The woman, police say "was uncooperative at the scene," and police have no details to report on the suspect or circumstances of the attack. The victim, they say, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the assault and is expected to survive.
