On Tuesday afternoon law enforcement officers shot a man they had pursued from San Mateo to the Ocean View neighborhood of San Francisco. That man has been identified by police as Ansar el Mohammed, according to the Examiner, and his condition, which had been critical, has been upgraded to "serious."

Regarding the chase, which ended at Montana and Capitol streets: A multi-agency team was pursuing what they believed to be a stolen Honda. Officers in a single vehicle pursuing el Mohammed were reportedly from three agencies affiliated with the San Mateo County Vehicle Theft Task Force.Correction: SFPD has emailed SFist to clarify that there was no "pursuit," and "SFPD was clear that the suspect vehicle was followed into SF."

The CHP officer and the San Mateo Police officer each fired their weapons according to KPIX5 — that's being further investigated, writes KGO, who adds that no gun was found on the suspect. Police say the vehicle was being used as a weapon, however.

KGO also spoke with a neighbor in the area of the shooting. Monique Malcolm revealed that her son calls el Mohammed "Notorious Dickerson," and added that he was a "sweet and nice guy."

"And something needs to happen with these police shooting and killing innocent individuals." Malcolm emphasized, "just taking people's lives from them."

A woman who identified herself as el Mohammed's friend and gave the Chronicle just her first name, Elisha, told that paper that he had grown up with her in the Ocean View area and claims that her friend had just come back from getting a paint job on his new car. The pursuit, she says, didn't occur at high speeds or anything like that. We also learn that the CHP officer who was reported injured in the incident suffered abrasions and a minor head injury and is in fair condition.
