As if San Francisco's violent weekend, during which four people were killed and a fifth died under suspicious circumstances, wasn't enough! In addition to the city's sudden rash of slayings — six in the last week — there's another name to add to the list of those killed under violent circumstances, as a man who was shot in June succumbed to his injuries last weekend.
The Examiner reports that on June 29, 29-year-old Fidel Amezcua was gunned down at Shotwell and 24th Streets in San Francisco's Mission District. Months later, on the afternoon of October 1, the SF resident died from those injuries, as the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office confirms.
As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made in Amezcua's death, according to the SFPD.
His death brings the number of homicides the SFPD has listed for 2016 to a total of 41. In comparison, there were 52 total homicides in SF at the end of 2015, 45 homicides in 2014, 48 in 2013, 68 in 2012, and 50 in 2011.
