In Biarritz, France, a Tesla vehicle on a test drive made a loud noise and was quickly engulfed in flames. "In less than a minute, the vehicle caught fire and in five minutes it was totally destroyed," the driver, speaking in French, told local paper Sud Ouest. "I'm still trembling."

The website Electrek writes that the car was a Tesla Model S 90D. The driver, who identified himself as a car enthusiast, was taking a test ride with two other passengers, all of whom escaped the vehicle. Before the incident, the car indicated on its dashboard that it was having a charging problem.

The Bay Area-based automaker confirms to the AP that no one was injured and that there was no damage to property. It is "working with the authorities to establish the facts," according to a statement.

Tesla was investigated by the US government after two reports of Tesla Model S sedan fires, but the car maker made changes to its designs and the investigations were closed. Recently, the company has faced scrutiny over its self-driving features, which some claim have caused accidents and deaths, though Tesla has consistently cited driver error.
