A pair of tourists visiting San Francisco's famous crooked stretch of Lombard Street had a decidedly unpleasant experience Thursday night, when both were struck and robbed by a team of thieves.
Police say that the two tourists — a 24-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man, were at the foot of Lombard's famous crooked block at 8:30 last night when the mugging went down.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, two men believed to be around 18 years old suddenly approached the visiting pair. One of the men snatched the woman's purse "and punched her in the face." The other crooked street crook pulled the man's camera from where it was hanging around his neck, and shoved the visitor to the ground.
The suspects then fled on foot in an unknown direction, police say.
Both tourists were transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening lacerations to their faces, police say.
As of Friday morning, both suspects in the mugging remain at large. If you know anything about them or the crime, SFPD asks that you contact police via their Anonymous Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 with "SFPD" at the beginning of the message.
