Fremont-based Tesla Motors yesterday released the above video depicting the partial assembly of a Model X, the electric car manufacturer's latest addition to its line of vehicles. Besides just being cool, the short clip provides another view into the formerly quite secretive 5.3 million square foot Fremont plant.
We first got a peek into the inner workings of the factory just a few weeks ago when a news crew was given an exclusive tour. In that case, we saw the huge rolls of aluminum that are shaped within the plant to form the body panels of Tesla's cars. The above video appears to depict a different moment in the manufacturing chain — one involving a lot of robots.
The company is expected to start rolling out completed Model X vehicles sometime later this year. We will no doubt see them on the streets of SF shortly thereafter.
