Janelle Monáe, that pompadour-rocking genre polymath, has a big role to play at this year's Stern Grove Festival. She's opening it up — and also, hopefully, getting benefactors to open up their wallets. Her performance at The Big Picnic is open to the public, but it's part of a fundraiser for which reserved seating tickets begin at $250.
The 79th season of the 1938-founded free-for-all free-for-all music show kicks off at 2 p.m. on June 19 in Sigmund Stern Grove at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard. The fun continues with weekly free admission concerts until August 21, and we'll have the full line-up to announce for you on May 1st.
