  • California's Legislative Black Caucus thinks State Attorney General Kamala Harris is too hands off when it comes to investigating police shootings. Specifically of concern is her opposition to legislation that would mandate independent investigations by her office in the case of fatal police shootings. Oh, and probably unrelated, Harris is a current US Senate Candidate. [LA Times]
  • The proposed development at the former Home Restaurant site (2100 Market Street) had been delayed by design changes, but a Planning Commission hearing set for February 4 should move the project forward again. [SFist] [Hoodline]
  • Two hearings scheduled to take place next week will seek to get the public's input on SFPD use-of-force policies. The first meeting takes place on January 26 at the Bayview YMCA. [Examiner]
  • A possible June ballot initiative would give San Francisco voters the opportunity to eliminate the Mayor's ability to appoint people to the Board of Supervisors (one recent example of this was Mayor Lee's appointment of Julie Christensen to the Board).   • A report from Paragon Real Estate Group tells us that while massive amounts of housing construction "should eventually affect the recent, high-appreciation dynamic for both sale and rental markets" we shouldn't expect to see relief from expensive housing anytime soon as construction is still being massively outpaced by "population, employment, wealth and buyer demand."
