Apparently not content to just steal a gun from a vehicle, one San Francisco criminal is taking his weapon theft even further, by stealing a firearm from right out of his victim's hands.

At least, that's what happened Thursday morning. A 26-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Seventh and Mission Streets at 1 a.m. when another man shoved him to the ground, the Chron reports.

As the man fell, he lost his grip on the laptop bag he was carrying — but the bag didn't contain an actual laptop. Instead, it had "two empty boxes of ammunition, two empty magazines" (the gun kind, not Us Weekly or Vogue), and a gun.

According to the Chron, the firearm was "legally registered to the victim, who was not a member of law enforcement" and was in a lockbox at the time of the theft.

The mugger, described only as "roughly 30 years old," grabbed the bag and ran north on Seventh, and hasn't been seen since.

The Chron reported earlier this week that "Through Nov. 20, 57 guns have been stolen from vehicles in San Francisco." A call to the San Francisco Police Department to determine the number of firearms stolen from victims during robberies or muggings was not returned at publication time.
