A 50-year-old woman* was struck and killed by a pick-up truck while walking her dog along Lake Merced Saturday afternoon. CBS SF reports that a pickup truck lost control and jumped the curb, hit the pedestrian, and "flew into the water," according to SF police.

The incident, which occurred around 1 p.m., was witnessed by several people who were walking or jogging along the popular path, including Mohamad Alhasan, who told CBS, "The truck just hit her and flew off the curb into the bushes. It hit the curb, at the same speed, no brakes...and that lady just flew off the curb, it was severe, head [on]."

KRON 4 reports that police don't believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the driver's loss of control of the vehicle, and that a mechanical failure could have caused the driver to crash. According to SF Gate, the driver is a woman in her 40s, and was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. She has not been arrested.

* The woman's coworker wrote in to SFist to correct her age, which was misstated in initial media reports as 65. She has not yet been publicly identified.
