The San Francisco Fire Department is fighting what's turned into a three-alarm fire Sunday morning, after a blaze broke out at a Mission District tire store.
Reports of the Mission District blaze started rolling in at around 7:45 a.m., according to an SFFD dispatcher, when smoke and flames started shooting out of a tire store on 16th Street between Shotwell Street and South Van Ness Avenue. By 8 a.m., the fire had spread to at least one other building, and the SFFD had declared it a three-alarm fire.

From photos posted to Twitter, it appears that the shop is the Rolling Stock Tire shop, located at 2860 16th Street.

The fire quickly spread, and smoke from the blaze is visible "all the way from SFO," one witness reported. And with the smoke came the acrid odor of all tire fires, a smell that has spread as far as North Beach, according to SFist commenter Brad Chestnut.

Nearby buildings have been evacuated and streets in the area are closed, according to an SFFD dispatcher, and everyone is asked to avoid the area as the fire department fights the blaze.
Per the Chron: "Firefighters doused the blaze from all sides as onlookers stood behind police tape taking pictures and watching as the fire gutted the shop and caused heavy damage to an adjacent apartment building."
"The shop itself appeared to be completely destroyed," they write, "with a large portion of the roof collapsed and charred tire rims scattered inside."
According to a tweet from the SFFD, 17 adults, four kids, and one pet were displaced in the fire.
