There are reports in the last hour of a mass shooting with multiple possibility fatalities at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. A single gunman was reported as "down" as of 11 a.m. A local Fox affiliate and CNN are reporting that 10 people are dead and "more than 20 others" are injured.

The shooting apparently occurred around 10:38 a.m. Thursday, which is when the first 911 calls arrived.

Another news station, KATU, says that Oregon State Police are confirming 15 fatalities, but the tally could go higher. It remains unclear if the shooter has been detained, or if he is deceased.

Roseburg is about 70 miles south of Eugene, and 180 miles south of Portland.

As NBC News reports, the college is home to 3,300 full-time students and 16,000 part-time students.

Sadly, so far this year, there have been 12 mass shootings nationwide in which more than five people were killed, the largest being a biker brawl in Waco, Texas in May in which 9 were killed and 18 others wounded. According to Mass Shooting Tracker, this Oregon shooting would be the 294th of the year to date (counting all shootings of four or more regardless of fatalities), and it appears to be the deadliest.

Update: Local station KOIN has the first images from the scene.

Update 2: The Oregonian is giving live updates, and there's a report of six critically wounded victims still being medivaced from the college.

Update 3: As of 1 p.m. PT, news station KATU is putting the death toll at 7 to 10. The Eugene Register-Guard puts the toll at 13, and reports, "Multiple witnesses at the scene said the shooting [was] isolated to one classroom: a writing and speech class in Snyder Hall."

CNN is reporting that the shooting suspect, a male in his 20s, may have been on social media Wednesday night discussing the shooting, and "appears to have had a conversation with others online about his intentions."

Update 4: CNN reports that the shooter is, in fact, dead, and it sounds as though he was shot by officers arriving on the scene. Contrary to the earlier report about one classroom, victims were found in multiple classrooms, and the shooter moved from one building to a science building before this was over.

Update 5: The New York Times is confirming that there were nine fatalities, seven people wounded. And the shooter has been ID'd as 26-year-old Chris Mercer.
