Though some might consider the performance of cappella pop music to be an inexcusable offense after (if not during) college, at least some employees from leading technology companies like Twitter and Google feel no such sense of shame, and good for them.
In an event scheduled for this evening and wisely to be held in Atherton (rather than, for example, San Francisco proper), local publication the Almanac News reports that groups will not only sing, but compete in an "'only in Silicon Valley'" event.
The fearsome foes are Google, Facebook, Pinterest, Dropbox and Twitter. And the names of these groups are, as you'd expect, cringe-worthy puns. For a fun game, let's see if you can guess the company from the group name!
1. The Pintunes
2. The Songbirds
3. The Vocal Network
4. Syncopation
5. Googapella
Good job. You got them right.
Anyway, the show is this evening, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the campus of Menlo College, 1000 El Camino Real, Atherton.
And, not to put too fine a point on it, but better (in my book) a cappella nerds than frat bros. Sadly, those seem to be the poles, if Twitter's fraternity-themed party is any indication.
