Why vandalize a school? And if you're going to vandalize a school, why have your vandalism take the form of theft of some worthless light bulb covers? That's what officials at the Children's Day School are hoping to ask the guy sen in the stills above, after their surveillance cameras caught him doing just that.
Occupying a building once known as the Dolores Park Castle, The Children's Day School at 601 Dolores has had a stumbling block or two on its journey from mansion to education. Remodeled and briefly marketed as a swanky private residence, the former church was purchased by the school back in 2011. Neighbor complaints regarding the space's conversion were reportedly resolved in 2012, and after years of renovations, the school just opened on April 20.
However, it looks like those complaints area residents had weren't as resolved as we thought, as one Children’s Day School parent tells Mission Local that the school was vandalized the night before the big opening in what was "not a high-priced theft but clearly just symbolic."
"There were some neighbors who weren’t happy about the school opening,” the parent told Mission Local.
As you can see in the video below, the vandalism suspect took four light bulb covers from the school, items that school head Molly Huffman says "served as rain protection and are worthless as parts."
So, what was the point? Huffman's scratching her head over the whole thing, saying that “It’s not like he got anything out of it." She reported the theft to the San Francisco Police Department, she says, and gave them the footage you see here.
"He has pieces of something," Huffman says."I can’t understand why anyone would do it.”
