The San Francisco Police Department is on the hunt for suspects after two Bay Area teens were shot and killed inside a car parked at an SF playground, in the city's 12th and 13th homicides of 2015.

According to SFPD spokesperson Officer Albie Esparza, police were called to the Crocker Amazon Playground at 9:36 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, they discovered the victims, named by the Chron as 18-year-old Kenyatta Butler Jr. of San Leandro and 19-year-old Donzel Gaines of SF.

Butler and Gaines were inside a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro when they were found. One teen was pronounced dead at the scene, the other was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and was pronounced dead there, the Chron reports. According to Esparza, police believe that they were seated in the vehicle, which was parked in the playground's parking lot, when they were killed.

According to the Ex, Rec and Park workers replacing poles in the parking lot witnessed the shooting, telling police that there were two shooters, one that fled on foot and the other by vehicle.

One worker told the Ex that "he heard nine shots ring out in rapid succession and saw even more shell casings, about 15, near the Camaro. The right front passenger window was blown out by gunfire, and bloody clothing was strewn across the concrete."

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, Esparza says. A gang task force officer who spoke with ABC7 "said he knew the two victims, but wouldn't say if they were in a gang."

Speaking with KTVU, Esparza said "Every shooting and stabbing in San Francisco, any violent crime, our Gang Task Force will always take a look at it to see if it is gang-related or not or if it's gang-motivated."

"That's going to be part of the homicide investigation, does it appear to be targeted," Esparza ABC7, but also noted that it was lucky that more people weren't injured.

“These suspects often just start shooting randomly. Thankfully no one else was hit by random bullets,” Esparza told CBS5.
